A week with the mountain gorillas
This is our signature journey — and the one guests talk about for years. You'll trek to two different mountain gorilla families, one in Rwanda's Volcanoes National Park and one in Uganda's Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, staying in intimate luxury lodges built into the hillsides between.
Between treks, we handle the parts that usually go wrong: border crossings, light-aircraft transfers, permits secured months ahead. You simply travel, trek, and unwind.
Your itinerary
Arrive in Kigali
Met on arrival at Kigali International and transferred to a boutique city hotel. Evening welcome briefing with your guide over dinner.
Kigali to Volcanoes National Park
A moving morning visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial, then a scenic drive north through terraced hills to your lodge in the foothills of the Virunga volcanoes.
Gorilla trek — Rwanda
An early start for your first trek into Volcanoes NP to spend a permitted hour with a mountain gorilla family. Afternoon at leisure with spa and views.
Cross into Uganda — Bwindi
A guided border crossing and transfer to the edge of the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, one of Africa's oldest rainforests and a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Gorilla trek — Uganda
Your second trek, into the dense green of Bwindi, to a different gorilla family. Afternoon community walk meeting the Batwa people who once called the forest home.
Forest morning & sundowner
A gentler day — a guided nature or golden-monkey walk, time to rest, and a sundowner over the canopy to toast the week.
Fly home
A light-aircraft transfer to Kigali or Entebbe connects with your international flight home — or extend with a Maasai Mara safari or beach days at TribalSand.

Glimpses of the journey
Frequently asked
A moderate level of fitness is enough. Treks range from one to six hours over uneven, sometimes steep forest terrain. Local porters are available to carry bags and lend a hand, and your guide sets a comfortable pace.
We secure both permits the moment you book. They're strictly limited and sell out months ahead, so the earlier you confirm, the better your choice of dates.
The dry seasons — June to September and December to February — make for easier trekking, though gorillas can be visited year-round. Green-season travel is quieter and beautifully lush.
Absolutely. Add a Maasai Mara migration safari, extend with beach days at our partner property TribalSand, or adjust the pace and lodges. Just tell us in the form and we'll shape it around you.
